HISTORY
Tsukiden Kogyo Co., Ltd. – 60 Years in Japan, 40 Years in the Philippines
Founded in 1963 – From Fukushima to the World
Tsukiden Kogyo Co., Ltd. was founded in 1963 in Tsukidate Town, Fukushima Prefecture (now part of Date City). Starting with the assembly of telephone switching equipment for major telecommunications manufacturers, the company now handles contract assembly of computers, mobile devices, base stations, and microwave communication equipment. Focusing mainly on printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, approximately 300 employees continue to work at six locations in Fukushima Prefecture, centered around the headquarters in Fukushima City.
Meanwhile, the local subsidiary in the Philippines employs around 1,500 people. In addition to electronics manufacturing centered on PCB assembly, the company operates a diversified business including assembly of various electronic and electrical devices, rental warehouses, logistics services, and staffing/recruitment services.
History of Expansion into the Philippines
1987 – Visionary Overseas Expansion
Founder Kichiro Hanzawa had been conducting business in the Philippines, mainly through trading companies, since the 1970s. Following the rapid appreciation of the yen after the Plaza Accord in 1985, major clients suggested manufacturing overseas, which became the trigger for full-scale expansion into the Philippines.
In 1987, the local subsidiary Tsukiden Electronics Philippines was established. The following year, in 1988, the company set up its own factory in Quezon City, Metro Manila, establishing an integrated production system for floppy disk drives and hard disk drives.
1993 – Relocation to Laguna Technopark
From 1993 onward, the company relocated to Laguna Technopark in Laguna Province, the largest industrial park in the Philippines. This Japan-Philippines joint development industrial park hosts many Japanese companies, primarily in the electronics and automotive parts industries.
