History of Expansion into the Philippines

1987 – Visionary Overseas Expansion

Founder Kichiro Hanzawa had been conducting business in the Philippines, mainly through trading companies, since the 1970s. Following the rapid appreciation of the yen after the Plaza Accord in 1985, major clients suggested manufacturing overseas, which became the trigger for full-scale expansion into the Philippines.

In 1987, the local subsidiary Tsukiden Electronics Philippines was established. The following year, in 1988, the company set up its own factory in Quezon City, Metro Manila, establishing an integrated production system for floppy disk drives and hard disk drives.

1993 – Relocation to Laguna Technopark

From 1993 onward, the company relocated to Laguna Technopark in Laguna Province, the largest industrial park in the Philippines. This Japan-Philippines joint development industrial park hosts many Japanese companies, primarily in the electronics and automotive parts industries.
